Get to Know Us

Doing God's Work, God's Will, God's Way

According to church records, the church was organized in 1865 in a log cabin near Cahokia Creek under Reverend Henry Livingston. There were seven charter members and three trustees.

Later that year, the congregation began worshiping at the old court house on North Main Street in Edwardsville, where the Lincoln School now stands. In 1877, the trustees purchased a lot that they traded in 1878 for the current location on Aldrup Street. The church was built that year and in 1881, a basement was added.

The church still has a Sunday school for all ages, and, over the summer, the church is affiliated with the Serving Area Kids (S.A.K.) program, now known as the Brown Bag Buddies, at Glen/Ed Pantry.  Wesley Chapel is active with the Glen/Ed Ministerial Alliance, the Glen/Ed Food Pantry, Faith in Action, the Faith Coalition, Edwardsville Unity, area churches and other A.M.E. churches in the metro area. We welcome you to look through our site to see all we have to offer.
